Rewarding your clients for understanding and improving their health

With Wellness Optimiser, we're rewarding your clients for looking after their health and helping them to better understand key lifestyle-related health factors: BMI, Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Blood Glucose. The healthier they are and the greater their level of engagement with the Vitality Healthy Living Programme, the lower they can keep their premiums.

It also comes with our greatest upfront discount of up to 60%. It also gives your clients the ability to reduce their premiums, as well as access to a range of rewards and discounts from our Healthy Living Programme, depending on their monthly premium.

Wellness Optimiser is also the first protection product to offer enhanced upfront discounts to your clients who have Type 2 Diabetes or a high BMI1, while providing them with an opportunity to make the changes they need to control their conditions.

How much does Wellness Optimiser cost?

Depending on their monthly premium, your clients will enjoy the benefits of either Vitality Lite or Vitality Plus.

Vitality Lite

Vitality Plus

If their monthly premium is below £45 for single life plans or below £60 for joint life plans:
  • They'll receive access to a number of discounts and rewards
  • We'll include an additional fee of £1.75 per month, per adult
  • There is no charge for children.
If their monthly premium is above £45 for single life plans or above £60 for joint life plans:
  • They'll receive access to our extended range of discounts and rewards
  • We'll include an additional fee of £4.50 per month, per adult
  • We'll include an additional fee of £2.00 per month, per child.

Whole of Life Cover

Your clients can get an upfront discount of between 25% and 60%, compared to our standard Whole of Life Cover Premium.

Keeping premiums low

Depending on their Vitality status and Wellness status each year, we’ll either increase their protection premium, decrease it or leave it the same.

Understand and know their health

We offer your clients a Vitality Healthcheck twice a year at a special discounted rate of £10. By taking a Vitality Healthcheck and measuring four key lifestyle related health factors, they can understand if improvements are needed or if they're already in the healthy range. We call this healthy range the Wellness Zone.

What's healthy?

Achieving healthy results in the Wellness Zone for each of the four measurements can have a positive long-term effect on wellness and, consequently, life expectancy. In accordance with clinical guidelines, we’ve defined the Wellness Zone for each of these factors:

18.5 — 24.9 kg/m2
25.0 — 29.9 kg/m2 for men with a waist measurement less than
94cm, and for women with a waist measurement less than 80cm

Blood glucose

Less than 7.8 mmol/L (random)
A random blood glucose test is based on two hours’ fasting

Blood pressure*

90 — 120 mmHg (systolic) | 60 — 80 mmHg (diastolic)

Cholesterol

A ratio of the total cholesterol level to high-density lipoprotein
(HDL) for men less than 4.5
A ratio of the total cholesterol level to high-density lipoprotein
(HDL) for women less than 4.0
*We will have a tolerance level for blood pressure. We will increase the upper band for both systolic and diastolic blood pressure by: 5% above the Wellness Zone if your clients are aged under 60; 10% above the Wellness Zone if they are aged 60 to 70 years.

How that affects your client's Wellness Status

Wellness status is defined by the number of Vitality Healthcheck results they have within the Wellness Zone. The more results within the Wellness Zone they achieve, the higher their Wellness status.

To recognise the extra effort needed to stay active as we get older, once your clients reach 70, there is no need to take a Vitality Healthcheck as their Wellness status will automatically be set to Select.

Wellness Optimiser for Diabetes or High Body Mass Index

We recognise that your clients may need to work harder to maintain or improve your health, so we give them a bigger upfront discount of between 32.5% and 65%, compared to our standard Whole of Life Cover Premium.

Alternatively, your clients can get an upfront discount of between 11% and 45% if they choose term cover.

As diabetes can have such a major impact on life, Wellness Optimiser requires diabetics to have a Vitality Healthcheck at least once every year to measure their key lifestyle related health factors. Annual HbA1c results also need to be provided.

Your clients are only eligible for an upfront discount if they have selected Wellness Optimiser and either have Type 2 Diabetes and/or have their protection premium increased during the application due to a high BMI. Otherwise they will receive the standard Wellness Optimiser discount.

We might change Wellness Optimiser in the future

We might change the way we award points, the way your client’s status works or the cost of Wellness Optimiser. We may also change our rewards; taking some away, adding new ones or improving the ones we have. So, your client shouldn’t buy this product just because they are interested in a particular rewards partner.

If we do need to change something, we’ll always let your client know and we’ll always give them at least six weeks’ notice.
