What is Consultant Select?
Consultant Select is a simple, fully digital way for your clients to get a referral to the right high-performing consultant for their needs.
Designed to offer clients easy access to treatment with high performing consultants, it’s underpinned by our commitment to high-quality clinical practice. This delivers smarter healthcare for your clients, by directing them to consultants who offer excellent treatment outcomes.
When providing a choice of consultants, our selection prioritises Premier Consultants who are shown to deliver, on average, superior performance across key measures. These include length of stay, re-admission rate and the need for patients to change consultants.
How it works
Here's how easy Consultant Select is for your clients:
See a GP
Your clients can start by seeing a Vitality GP or NHS GP to get an open referral.
Start a claim
Once they have an open referral they can start a claim online using Care Hub.
Choose a consultant
Then they simply choose a consultant using Consultant Finder.
Digital authorisation
When your clients need to access onward diagnostics and treatment, they can request care online through Care Hub and receive an instant authorisation decision. The majority of your clients’ claims can be immediately authorised online.1
Once your client’s claim has been approved, and if they need to see a consultant, they can use the Consultant Finder to find and choose an appropriate consultant.
1 While most members will be able to have their care approved online, some members may be asked to book a call-back with our Member Care team. This could be due to the member's acceptance terms or if they have only recently joined Vitality.

Option to choose their hospital
Consultant Select is one of three options we offer with Core Cover. If your client needs to visit a specific consultant or hospital, they can add a hospital list to their plan.
